Polar Explorers

The Maud Expedition (1918-1925)

Roald Amundsen's new polar ship the Maud was to repeat the Fram's drift over the Arctic Ocean.

The Maud expedition was unsuccessful in its main goal, but instead produced a large amount of important scientific data under the leadership of geophysicist H.U. Sverdrup.

"Victory awaits him, who has everything in order - luck we call it.  Defeat is definitely due for him, who has neglected to take the necessary precautions - bad luck we call it"

Roald Amundsen
